We will share some tips and ways on how you can try to get your frames fixed at home so you can still wear them.

How To Repair Broken Plastic Frames

You can use this method to try repair both a broken frame around the lens or bridge of the nose.

You will need some strong plastic specific bonding glue like Superglue for this repair method.

Please be careful when using adhesive products like Superglue and follow the packaging instructions.

  1. Clean off the damaged area to remove any dust or debris.
  2. Cover the lenses with a cloth or wax paper to avoid damage to them from dropping glue on them.
  3. Apply the bonding glue to either broken end.
  4. Press the two broken ends with the glue against each other.
  5. Hold them together for at least 1 minute to allow the glue to set to some degree
  6. Lay the frames down on a table and leave them for 15-2mins to allow the glue to fully strengthen.
  7. Make sure there is no wet glue present before trying the frames on again to see if this fix worked.

How To Repair Broken Metal Frames

You can use this method to hep try fix metal frame eyeglasses that are bent.

What you will might need is an eyeglass repair kit and a pair of soft pliers.

  1. Hold one of the broken ends with either your fingers or the pliers.
  2. Gently try bending the metal frame or bent arms back into shape.

  1. Buy an eyeglasses kit from your local optometrist, pharmacy or an online store.
  2. Use the magnifying glass and screwdriver to remove the existing broken screw if it is still present.
  3. Take the replacement screw from the repair kit and use that to screw in place the hinge again.

2. How To Use a Toothpick to Repair Hinges

This method is very temporary and we have heard some people use it when they are in a pickle and can't get hold of a repair kit. This is not a recommended long-term fix option.

  1. Insert the end of a wooden toothpick where the screw would go into the hinge.
  2. Break off the excess amount of toothpick.
  3. Trim off any excess wooden toothpick so that it cannot scratch you.
  4. Put your frames on to test if this method worked for you.

How to Fix a Broken Nose Pad

If your frames have nose pads attached to the frame by screws then you can try use this method to fix any broken nose pads.

What you will need is an eyeglasses repair kit and possibly new nose pads.

  1. Buy and eyeglasses repair kit or replacements nose pads from your local optometrist, pharmacy or an online store.
  2. Use the screwdriver and magnifying glass from the repair kit to either tighten a loose nose pad screw or remove the screw if needs.
  3. Insert a new screw into the nose pad area or attach the replacement nose pad.
  4. Gently tighten the screw in place.
  5. Put the frames on to test if the nose pad feels good again and the repair solved your problem.
